About

I could say the name “Edible Hat” comes from the figure of speech “if you can [unlikely task], I’ll eat my hat” but the truth is much more mundane. I was signing up for something and the username I wanted was taken. I don’t like having a number in my username, so I started trying arbitrary two word combinations. Edible_hat was the first one that was available.

This blog’s title, Nothing is more effective …so use nothing, comes from my dad. Whenever there’s an ad that says “Nothing is more effective” he says “so use nothing”. I find it funny even if you don’t, so there, :P

My name is Dave, I am 32 years old, married to Candice (who happens to be Deaf), studying computer science at the University of South Australia and working at a service station to keep me alive. And live in Adelaide (the capital city of South Australia). I’m bad at writing biographies, so if you want to know more about me than that, read the blog posts.

This blog is about whatever interests me enough to post about. Topics so far include computers, the Deaf community, knitting (yes, a guy who knits!), gardening and dealing with government agencies.

I took all but one of the photos in the header. They are, from left to right:

  • pixel art made of apples at the Royal Adelaide Show (September 2009)
  • the backyard at my aunt’s old house. We carpeted the jungle/yard in an attempt to kill all the plants. It worked. (circa 2006)
  • dog who lives at my uncle’s vineyard in Mclaren Vale (date unknown)
  • the ferris wheel at Southbank in Brisbane (March 2009)
  • a wine barrel at the vineyard mentioned above (July 2006)
  • waiting for Candice to arrive at our wedding (March 14, 2009)
